Our important competitive advantage is the ability to integrate wide range of reader technologies and brands. Over the years, Spica has successfully integrated readers from various brands including several generations of HID iClass, Mifare and Legic smart cards, and all major classic RFID cards such as HID Prox, Indala, EM, Hitag, Keri and others. Most of these technologies are currently supported in our reader portfolio. However, due to ever increasing complexity of reader technologies, every particular requirement needs checking with our presales team, and no blanket compatibility statement can be issued.
iClass SE by HID
HID is worldwide No. 1 manufacturer of proximity readers and RFID cards. US based HID is a part of Swedish concern Assa Abloy.
Spica is long-time HID’s reseller and integrator partner. HID cards and readers are supported by standard Time&Space system and available from Spica stock.
MIFARE® DESFire by NXP
MIFARE® is hugely popular European RFID brand with Philips pedigree. The brand is owned by NXP Semiconductors, who is not manufacturing readers, but rather licensing the technology to card and reader manufacturers around the world, including HID.
Spica is NXP partner integrator
MIFARE® has gone through several generations and variations, more about it here:
Standard Time&Spac system offers support for most popular legacy technologies, such as classic 125kHz EM, HID Prox, Hitag and Indala. However, the security has aged to obsolescence, and Spica is not recommending these technologies for new systems.
EM or H4100:
Combining Various Technologies
Time&Space allows readers (and badges) from different vendors and generations to be used together even within the same system. With the proliferation of various new ID technologies and lack of standards, that is becoming increasingly important.
There are several approaches for having two (or even more) different card technologies within the same system:
- Having door controlers and the software flexible enough to handle various readers within the same system
- Having hybrid readers capable of reading various card standards
- Having hybrid cards with two or even more different chips, magstripe or barcode
All these approaches can be combined to reach the best possible economy in a given situation. For more information, please contact our presales.
